Power Play Woes Put Playoffs in Jeporday

In a hard fought game, the Rangers fell to the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. This was supposed to be a statement game. Instead, their power play was a mockery (1 for 6) and Cam Ward was better in net than Henrik Lundqvist. They also didn't manage their shift after Carolina scored the third goal. Twenty-five seconds after Carolina scored their third goal, Rod Brind'Amour scored to make it 4-2. The Rangers lack the ability to put teams away in the third. They didn't have that killer instinct that a playoff team needs to have at this time of the year.

Down 1-0 early in the first period, the Rangers had 4 power play opportunities to tie the game but came up empty. That was their chance to tie the game and possibly take a lead. That was their chance to suck the crowd out of the game. Instead, they were playing catchup all night.
They should some character battling back from 1-0 and then 2-1 with goals by Corey Potter and Dan Girardi.

Going 1 for 6 on the power play will not get you into the playoffs never mind advancing in the playoffs. Teams with good Power plays advance in the playoffs. At the end of the day, the Ranger's best players MUST be their best players and last night they weren't.

The Rangers have 4 games left against Boston, Montreal, and a home and home series with Philadelphia to salvage the season. Keep your fingers crossed!

Next Game:
